Dental Therapist & Hygiene at Bury Dental Practice

If teeth are not cleaned fully, plaque hardens into calculus (tartar) that a toothbrush cannot remove. Over time this irritates the gums, leading to bleeding, bad breath and eventually gum disease, one of the most common causes of tooth loss in adults.

Our dental therapist gently removes that build-up, cleans below the gum line where needed and shows you simple ways to keep your mouth healthy between visits. Seeing them regularly is one of the best things you can do for your gums and your teeth.

FAQs

Dental Therapist & Hygiene: your questions

Anything else? Call us on 0161 764 4960 and we will gladly help.

What is the difference between a dental therapist and a hygienist?

Both are registered dental professionals who specialise in preventing and treating gum disease. A dental therapist has additional training and can also carry out some routine treatments, such as certain fillings.

My gums bleed when I brush. Should I book?

Yes. Bleeding gums are often the first sign of gum disease, and it is usually reversible when caught early. A visit to our dental therapist is a good place to start.

Does a scale and polish hurt?

Most people find it comfortable. If your gums are sensitive, tell us and we will take extra care and go at your pace.
